Is this the first grant for central heating?
The ECO3 Scheme offers the 'First Time Central Heat Grant. ECO3 was the central government scheme. Energy Company Obligation (ECO), is a requirement that large energy suppliers have to implement energy efficiency measures in domestic homes. It is part a grant program offered by the government to make the UK more eco-friendly and cut its carbon emissions by 2050.
Perhaps you have heard of "Affordable heath"? Affordable Warmth is a program which helps the most vulnerable. This includes households with low incomes, fuel poverty, and vulnerable households. The Government has established the eligibility criteria for ECO3. This will make the scheme available to approximately 6.6 million households. You can also use the flexibility of local authority eligibility to pay up to 25% of your obligation.
ECO3 was created by the UK Government to increase home heating's efficiency as well as cost effectiveness. This is the replacement of inefficient boilers by more efficient heating systems. This combination allows you to heat your home with less electricity and gas.
"First Time Central Heating" (also known as FTCH) is an extension to the ECO3 program. It allows for the construction of a complete system including pipes, boilers and radiators. This is a big job but the scheme usually covers all costs. This program is available to people without central heating.
What are the eligibility requirements for central heating?
You can apply for first time central heating scheme via either the main ECO3 Program, or via LA Flex. Each program has its own eligibility requirements. All programs require that your household has no central heating system. You could also use one of the following heating systems:
Electric room heaters: Direct-acting heaters, fan heaters and inefficient electric heaters
Gas room heaters; including fixed mains gas room heaters; or
Gas fire with back boiler
Back boiler, solid fuel fire
An electrical boiler does not include electric underfloor heating or ceiling heating.
Bottles of LPG for heating
Warmers for rooms heated by solid fuel
A room can be heated by wood/biomass heating
Oil room heaters
LA Flex is different from ECO3 or other ECO3 brands.
LA Flex is closely tied to ECO3 as it's an extension of ECO3's program. This
is essentially additional money that local authorities give to
households who do not meet the main ECO3 eligibility requirements, but
still heavily depend on funding programs. We do all the legwork and apply for the same scheme.
While
the rules might be a bit looser than some, you'll still get the same
thing: a free boiler replacement, new cavity walls insulation, and
underfloor heating. LA Flex can be granted by different local authorities.
What are the eligibility requirements to apply for LA Flex or ECO3?
LA Flex and ECO3 require the applicant to be the owner. These programs are not open to renters. Your home must not have a boiler if you are installing central heating for the first time. Your boiler should be no more than 7 years old. Boilers become less efficient when they are used more often. It is likely that your boiler is less efficient if it still has a "B" rating sticker 10 years later. Boilers that have been used for seven years or more need to be replaced. These are the times when needs change.
To be eligible for Eco 3, you must be receiving a government benefit. This includes:
Element Pension Credit Guarantee Credit Credit
